Discover what you can do with the USB connection

USB-home

All Cello TVs come with a USB input connection. However, consumers often ask us what this can be used for. Well, it’s actually a great little feature that is capable of adding significant functionality to your TV. In this article we explain a few of the everyday uses of the USB connection.

Live Pause and Recording

You don’t need an external recording device to record your favourite programmes with a Cello TV. A simple USB stick or other external hard drive is capable of connecting to your TV and adding this useful functionality. For instance, with a neat and tidy USB stick inserted you can pause live TV and record. Maybe the phone rings or you want to make a cup of tea – simply pause the TV and come back to your viewing when ready. Making it work is easy – the first thing you should do is format the hard drive or USB. To do this take the following steps with your remote control:

  • Select main menu
  • Select feature
  • Select PVR
  • Partition select
  • Press red to format

To record a programme, select Electronic Programme Guide (EPG), go to the chosen programme then press ‘record’. You can view the programmes you have set to record in the timer/event list. Here you can also add, edit or delete programmes plus add recordings with specific timings. To see what has been recorded go to ‘PVR’ list.

To pause live television simply press ‘pause’ on the remote control then enter ‘time shift’ and press ‘pause’. Once you are ready to resume your viewing press ‘stop’ to exit.

Typically, an 8 GB USB stick will give you 2-3 hours of high definition recording.

External Hard Drives

With the USB connection you can add external hard drives, not just USB sticks. This is useful if you have movies, photos or music on another device that you would like to view on your TV. Via the main menu you can quickly and easily select the media you would like to view by selecting ‘access media’ then ‘USB’ to view all your external hard drive content – photos, music, movies and e-books.

It is advisable to use a hard drive that has its own power source as the TV is not suitable for powering an external hard drive.
